Aetna Drug Rehab in New Orleans
The NOLA Way
Navigating Your Recovery with Aetna Insurance at NOLA Detox
Aetna insurance offers insurance coverage for all levels of addiction recovery, medical detox, and dual diagnosis treatments at NOLA Detox. However, there are different plans like bronze, silver, gold, or platinum, and with each of these, Aetna typically requires that you or the facility you choose prove the medical necessity of treatment.
What is Covered by Aetna Drug Rehab
If you are looking for a personalized treatment program, you can apply your insurance benefits to inpatient, outpatient, dual diagnosis programs, and medical detox services.
- Medical Detoxification: This is covered across almost all plan tiers. This level of care helps to safely manage severe physical withdrawal symptoms under continuous, 24/7 medical supervision.
- Residential Rehab: Higher-tier policies (Gold and Platinum) typically provide high coinsurance coverage for extended residential stays, but that doesn’t mean lower-tier policies (Bronze and Silver) won’t cover a residential stay with us. Some tiers have stricter clinical reviews, meaning our team provides regular progress reports to demonstrate medical necessity, while others have varying copays at a flat per-day rate.
- Dual Diagnosis: Aetna provides coverage for the treatment of mental health conditions. If you are looking for Aetna drug rehab but you also have a mental health disorder—including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma—you can apply your benefits toward our dual diagnosis treatment plans.
- Outpatient Treatment: As you transition to outpatient programs, like our Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and structured aftercare therapy, Aetna generally supports this for several months if not longer, with varying copays based on plan tier.

Our Program
Coverage Prerequisites from Aetna
Aetna doesn’t impose a set number of days for Aetna drug rehab. Instead, they base coverage on medical necessity and your individual policy.
At NOLA Detox, we provide a full continuum of care designed to support our clients for up to one year, and Aetna will conduct clinical reviews incrementally, like an immediate approval for medical detox up to 7 days, after which a review might need to take place for an extension or a residential program authorized in 30-day intervals, after which updates have to be submitted for extension approval. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are frequently covered for the full 3-month duration, provided you continue to meet outpatient diagnostic criteria.
To seamlessly apply your Aetna benefits to one of our rehab programs, you’ll need to contact our admissions team for a clinical, formal assessment. This helps to ensure that we can prove to your insurance provider the medical necessity of your program level. If you are participating in a medical detox program or a residential inpatient program, it typically must be pre-authorized by your insurance provider before you check into our facility, but we handle this for you to ensure same-day admissions where possible.
We work with your insurance.
NOLA Detox accepts most major insurance plans, and both campuses accept Medicaid. Don’t let coverage be a barrier; our admissions team will verify your benefits for free, same day.

What we offer
Out-of-Pocket Costs: What to Expect with Copayments and Deductibles
Before Aetna begins covering the costs of your treatment, you typically have to meet things like deductibles first and foremost, after which you might be required to pay a copay or coinsurance amount.
The deductible is an annual amount that is applied toward all care you receive during the year. You typically have to meet that deductible out of pocket before your insurance will cover the rest of your treatment.
If, for example, you have a $6,000 annual deductible and you’ve already paid $3,000 out of pocket for some Orthopedic procedures or other co-pays, then you will typically be required to cover the difference of the remaining $3,000, after which your insurance benefits will cover any and all remaining costs for drug rehab or any other health needs throughout the year.
However, some policies also require a flat copay or percentage-based coinsurance after your deductible has been met.
Using the example above, once you reach your deductible, Aetna might require that you pay a flat daily copay for a residential stay or a percentage-based coinsurance for outpatient therapy, such as 20% of your outpatient therapy costs, while your insurance pays the other 80%.
If your plan has an Out-of-Pocket Maximum, Aetna will pay 100% of all additional covered behavioral health services for the remainder of the calendar year once that cap is reached.
The exact amount for deductibles is based on individual plans as is the out-of-pocket maximum. Whether you have coinsurance or a copay is also based on your specific plan.
NOLA Detox is in-network with Aetna, meaning we can coordinate with your insurance provider to apply the maximum number of benefits to your care.
Our two campuses provide a complete Continuum of care, helping clients transition from medical detox to inpatient care, then to intensive outpatient programs and finally to outpatient care. Our clinical team helps ensure a smooth transition of Aetna authorizations from one tier to the next, so you don’t have to restart the insurance process, update your paperwork, or switch facilities.
Perhaps more importantly, because every patient at NOLA Detox is evaluated and treated directly by a board-certified psychiatrist (MD), not a nurse practitioner, our facility can meet the strict medical-necessity requirements that Aetna demands for proper Medical documentation. We also maintain an academic affiliation with the Tulane School of Medicine so that all our clinical protocols meet the evidence-based standards required by Aetna.
