What Is Anxiety?
Mild anxiety
To be diagnosed with mild anxiety, you must feel on edge or nervous most of the time for at least six months. You may also experience physical symptoms such as sweating, increased heart rate, and shortness of breath with minimal exertion.
Moderate to severe anxiety
Severe anxiety is when you experience intense anxiety symptoms for six months or longer, and your worry impairs your ability to function at work and your relationships. You also may experience more severe physical symptoms when exposed to specific triggers.
Mild to moderate anxiety
If you’re suffering from moderate anxiety, you may experience more severe feelings of being on edge or being nervous most of the time, having difficulty with sleep because of worrisome thoughts (even if you’re not aware of them), and experiencing similar physical symptoms as those suffering from mild anxiety.
What to Look Out For
Symptoms of Anxiety
Difficulty concentrating
When someone is over-anxious, it can be challenging to focus on what’s going on around them. They can also have trouble making decisions. This can end up affecting everyday tasks, your job, and your relationships.
Muscle tension
Racing heart
It is normal for your heart to beat faster when you are exercising. But if your heart rate increases even without exercise, this may be a sign you are suffering from anxiety. Having an increased heart rate for a prolonged period can harm your health.
Grinding teeth
When experiencing anxiety, it’s common to clench your teeth and grind them. Grinding your teeth can cause a change in how your front tooth bite feels (i.e., if they usually feel smooth, they may start to feel uneven).
Difficulty sleeping
Problems with sleep is a common symptom of anxiety. Not only can it be challenging for someone who has these conditions to fall asleep or stay asleep, but they often experience nightmares or wake up feeling tired even after having slept through the night. They also tend not to remember their dreams.

What to Look For in Anxiety and Addiction Treatment Programs
Many people struggling with undiagnosed or untreated anxiety disorders also struggle with addiction, often as a tool for self-medication. Others struggle with addiction and develop an anxiety disorder as a secondary symptom.
Regardless of which came first, the best type of treatment involves a dual diagnosis program, something that treats substance use and mental health disorders at the same time. At NOLA Detox and Recovery Center, we do just that.
Our facility holds the right credentials to provide a high standard of evidence-based care, providing each of our clients with a multidisciplinary medical team, personalized treatment plans that transition through multiple levels of care, with options for trauma-informed therapy and aftercare support.
LEVELS OF CARE
When to Consider Inpatient vs. Outpatient Anxiety Care
At our facility we offer multiple levels of care including a residential treatment center and outpatient services. Each of these are available in New Orleans depending on individual stability and need.
Inpatient Residential Care
Our inpatient residential program is there to help with things like medication assisted treatment for initial detox as well as those who are facing severe withdrawal symptoms or acute episodes of anxiety. At our residential facility we provide clients with a highly structured environment that offers 24-hour care and support with clinical monitoring and medical support as well as structured daily programs that build recovery skills.
Outpatient Care
Our outpatient programs are the next level of care we provide. These are ideal for those looking to treat anxiety and co-occurring substance use disorders that are mild to moderate, those who already have a strong support system at home and are stable enough to reside at home or in a sober living facility.
These programs can also help people who have graduated from our residential program but still need additional support while they try to maintain family responsibilities or other work and school requirements.
We work with your insurance.
NOLA Detox accepts most major insurance plans, and both campuses accept Medicaid. Don’t let coverage be a barrier; our admissions team will verify your benefits for free, same day.

Why Our Amenities Matter
With NOLA Detox, we provide several different amenities depending on the level of care. Having high quality amenities can transform the recovery process, changing it from something that feels clinical and rigid into something that feels comfortable and dignified. We offer things like private bathrooms, queen size beds, in room cable and wi-fi, all of which work together to reduce the anxiety of entering treatment in the first place.
Continued access to nutritious and comforting food as well as specialized entertainment supports physical stability during the recovery process and builds that sense of community that allows those with anxiety to help manage symptoms without increasing feelings of loneliness or worry.
Comfort Food
The things that people consume have a direct impact on how they feel which is why NOLA Detox incorporates our New Orleans flair into the comfort foods we provide, foods served by restaurants like Copeland’s, New Orleans Roast Coffee, and Otis Spunkmeyer Cookies.
We ensure that clients who are participating in our inpatient/ residential anxiety and addiction treatment receive three delicious meals every day with a variety of snacks. Throughout the day for example we offer hot New Orleans roast coffee and each night we provide warm chocolate chip cookies and milk.
We also host special events that include outdoor picnics, weekly bonfires, crawfish boils, and pizza nights all of which provide clients not only with stable nutrition during the week but opportunities to consume food that slows down the nervous system, helps reduce levels of anxiety, and leaves clients feeling good.
Managing Anxiety Symptoms
One of the ways that many clients benefit from our amenities has to do with the tools we provide for managing anxiety symptoms. For example, we have partnerships with religious organizations and different places of worship to accommodate many different faiths and fellowship practices.
We also incorporate yoga, meditation, and wellness activities into daily schedules for both residential and outpatient programs.
Learning to better manage these anxiety symptoms is heavily grounded and focusing on the present, redirecting worries about the future or rumination about the past and our mindfulness, wellness, and yoga activities help clients do that.
In between these sessions or walking the trails, clients have rooms with private bathrooms and queen beds, TV with cable and wi-fi, and community phones to ensure that connections with family, friends, and work are still maintained throughout the recovery process.
Enjoy Life Again.
New Orleans’ own full-continuum addiction treatment, built by locals who understand this city, designed for everyone who loves what it stands for.
NOLA DETOX
What to Expect: A Typical Day at NOLA Detox
With our residential programs, clients typically start with detox after which they transition to the rest of their program that incorporates individual and group therapy alongside recreational activities and weekly entertainment.
The same type of schedule is expected with our outpatient programs; only these offer a part-time option for recovery meeting only a few hours per day which helps clients work around other personal or professional obligations.
Residential Schedules
A typical day in our residential treatment program is highly immersive and structured.
Clients wake up in their rooms at a specific time and gather for breakfast at a predetermined time. After breakfast, there are check-ins by medical staff and the rest of the day consists of individual and group sessions like trauma-informed therapy or peer support groups.
In the afternoon we include structured creative outlets like arts and crafts as well as physical outlets like yoga.
The evenings focus on blending relaxation with community building, like our weekly campfire, communal dinners, or live music.
Outpatient Schedules
Our outpatient programs are designed to support more independence, allowing clients to live at home fulfilling other personal and professional obligations while still coming to our facility during the day or in the evening. These time frames make it possible to continue receiving support around other obligations while participating in a part-time program that is structured with 3-hour days typically held four days per week.
During these sessions are clients participating in things like coping skills education, group therapy, and behavioral health workshops so that clients can utilize recovery strategies in real time when they go home and come back to build on those skills and learn more.
