TRICARE Drug Rehab For Veterans in New Orleans
The NOLA Way
What is Covered by TRICARE Drug Rehabs
TRICARE drug rehabs can provide services like medical detox, inpatient care, or outpatient care. However, not all drug rehab facilities that are considered in network with TRICARE offer the same programs or the same type of support.
At NOLA Detox, we work with TRICARE to apply coverage for medical detox, inpatient care, outpatient programs, and dual-diagnosis treatments.
- TRICARE covers medical detox for clients to safely manage acute withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, opiates, benzos, and stimulants.
- TRICARE plans may require authorization, but typically cover inpatient and residential rehab for 24/7 medically monitored environments, providing structured support for complex substance use disorders.
- TRICARE features dedicated coverage for co-occurring mental health conditions—such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma—allowing both your psychological needs and addiction to be treated at one of our facilities at the same time.
- TRICARE fully covers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), and ongoing individual or group therapy sessions to ensure continuous support during step-down phases.
The amount you have to pay out of pocket, and how long TRICARE covers treatment will vary.
TRICARE does not put strict daily limits on care. Instead, they provide coverage based on need. TRICARE has eliminated standard calendar limits on residential stays. Instead, coverage continues seamlessly for as long as your treatment is clinically justified, which our team will discuss with TRICARE regularly.
While NOLA Detox offers full-continuum programs that can support you for up to a full year, TRICARE authorizes care sequentially. For instance, a residential stay may be approved in an initial block of 14 to 30 days, with extensions provided based on ongoing clinical evaluations.

Our Program
How to Apply Benefits
TRICARE typically requires prior authorization, referrals, and provider verification before any policyholders can use their insurance benefits. At NOLA Detox, we are a TRICARE drug rehab center. As an authorized facility with certified professionals, you can apply your benefits to any of our programs.
With TRICARE, all high-intensity care—including inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, residential rehab, and medical detox—must be pre-authorized before checking in. At our treatment centers, all clients undergo their initial assessment via a certified doctor or psychiatrist, not a registered nurse. This ensures that prior authorization is met right away.
Active duty service members always require a formal referral from their Primary Care Manager (PCM) for civilian specialist care. Active duty family members and retirees using TRICARE Select generally do not need a referral for outpatient network therapy, though Prime users typically do. If you are unsure whether you need a referral, our admissions specialists can help when they review your coverage.
Out-of-Pocket Costs with TRICARE
Like all insurance providers, there might be out-of-pocket costs associated with care. However, your out-of-pocket exposure is entirely dependent on your beneficiary category and specific plan type.
- For Active Duty Service Members (ADSMs), all authorized civilian substance use and mental health treatment is provided at a $0 copay cost share.
- For family members, retirees, and reserve members, costs vary based on whether you are enrolled in Prime or Select.
- TRICARE Select users typically pay a small annual deductible followed by a fixed network copayment or percentage-based cost share per day or session.
Once your total out-of-pocket medical expenditures reach your plan’s annual Catastrophic Cap, TRICARE covers 100% of all additional covered clinical costs for the rest of that year.
Our Approach
Premium Amenities: "The New Orleans Way"
At NOLA Detox, we combined high-quality clinical care with an environment that mirrors the warmth, hospitality, and comfort of a fine local hotel rather than a sterile hospital ward. Founded by local New Orleans residents who grew up in the area, our goal is to bring in the New Orleans culture with which many of our clients are familiar so that recovery feels more comfortable and more like home.
Experiential and Culinary Comforts
At either of our residential locations, clients enjoy three daily, chef-prepared meals sourced from renowned local institutions like Copeland’s.
We also offer regular campus events such as seasonal crawfish boils, backyard BBQs, and southern cookouts.
To help make things feel more comfortable during a difficult time, we work hard to create a home-like atmosphere before bedtime; our staff serves hot, fresh chocolate chip cookies and milk every night.
During the day, we offer unlimited, fresh New Orleans Roast Coffee.
Campus & Living Amenities
When clients arrive at our eight-acre main campus, they are immediately welcomed into an expansive, peaceful landscape featuring tall trees, landscaped open spaces, and serene walking trails for personal reflection.
Our shared resident rooms feature comfortable queen or king-size beds with premium pillowtop mattresses, private climate controls, high-speed Wi-Fi, and private, in-room full bathrooms.
During the day, clients can help their minds and bodies through an on-site fitness center, dedicated volleyball courts, guided yoga and meditation spaces, and interactive gaming devices or tabletop board games.
Outside of regular therapy and physical wellness, clients can enjoy weekly outdoor campfires, regular live musical performances, and art/craft groups, which provide organic ways to learn how to celebrate a sober life.
We work with your insurance.
NOLA Detox accepts most major insurance plans, and both campuses accept Medicaid. Don’t let coverage be a barrier; our admissions team will verify your benefits for free, same day.

What we offer
A Direct, Transparent Admissions Process
Seeking immediate crisis care requires removing insurance delays, which often center on the right paperwork and pre-authorizations proving your need for treatment. At NOLA Detox, we provide a streamlined, highly protective admissions portal designed around rapid human contact.
When you first reach out to our admissions team, you’ll speak directly with a trained coordinator, no delays and no bots. From there, we help you tackle financial barriers right away, reviewing your TRICARE coverage. At NOLA Detox, we work with all private commercial insurance companies and VA health systems. We help you understand your benefits, insurance requirements, and out-of-pocket costs.
Once that is taken care of, we get you started. We work hard to facilitate same-day facility placements. If transportation is requested, a designated driver will be dispatched directly to your location to pick you up.

How NOLA Detox Makes Care Accessible
Many clients find that getting started with us is much easier than competing facilities when applying for insurance benefits. Several insurance providers require pre-authorization and other medical forms before benefits can be applied.
At either of our locations, we use psychiatrists for our admissions process, not nurse practitioners, and this means accessing the right medical authorizations when you need them the most.
If you are ready, call our admissions team at (504) 474-7030. Let our team help you find a path forward.
