Optum Drug Rehab in New Orleans

This article provides information on Optum coverage for drug rehabs like NOLA Detox, for those clients in need.

The NOLA Way

Types of Coverage at Optum Drug Rehabs

With Optum drug rehabs, there are different levels of care covered under insurance plans:

  • Medical Detoxification is covered across all plan tiers. This helps clients manage severe or dangerous withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, opiates, benzos, and stimulants.
  • Inpatient and Residential Rehab is frequently covered under higher-tier policies such as Gold/Platinum, with the majority of costs covered by Optum. If you have a lower-tier policy like Bronze/Silver, some portion of residential stays may be covered under strict clinical review.
  • Dual Diagnosis & Mental Health is covered under all Optum plans. This means clients with mental health conditions—such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma— alongside addiction can start a dual diagnosis program with us.
  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and standard aftercare counseling are universally supported by Optum policies to ensure a stable step-down process.

However, how long you are covered by your Optum insurance plan and the prerequisites you must meet will vary from one plan to the next.

We work with your insurance.

NOLA Detox accepts most major insurance plans, and both campuses accept Medicaid. Don’t let coverage be a barrier; our admissions team will verify your benefits for free, same day.

Our Program

Coverage Duration and Prerequisites

Optum insurance typically determines how long it will cover care based on medical necessity. This means they want to know there is a medical necessity for treatment rather than imposing a blanket limit such as 30 or 60 days.

At NOLA Detox, we offer programs that can support you for up to a full year but your insurance will evaluate your progress at various stages and from there determine whether or not to continue covering the costs.

For example, medical detox is usually covered for 3 to 7 days to ensure physical stabilization. But after that, residential treatment is typically authorized in blocks of 14 to 30 days. Optum usually requires regular clinical reviews for any client seeking extensions. Thankfully, this is something that our medical team can provide where necessary. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)—which run for three months at NOLA Detox—are often covered for the duration of the program, provided you continue to meet outpatient treatment criteria.

Before you can apply your insurance benefits to a treatment program, you have to satisfy any prerequisites. In most cases, Optum Insurance requires a documented intake assessment from a licensed physician or psychiatrist. At NOLA Detox, each of our potential clients are connected with an actual physician rather than a registered nurse. Whereas most facilities process intakes with a registered nurse, this can require an additional step before insurance providers will apply benefits. Not with us.

Optum must officially authorize inpatient residential rehab and medical detox before you check into our facility. But don’t worry; our admissions team will help you review your policy and figure out if you need a direct referral from your primary care physician and how quickly you can get started.

What we offer

Out-of-Pocket Costs: Copayments and Deductibles

Before Optum begins covering the costs of your care with us, your standard policy rules regarding deductibles, copayments, and out-of-pocket maximums will apply.

  • For starters, you have to pay your annual deductible in full before Optum insurance will cover the rest of the care, as indicated in your particular policy.
  • Once you have met your annual deductible, you still might have to pay a flat fee like a co-payment, for each day you participate in our residential program or a coinsurance requirement, which is often a percentage of the total cost of care for things like outpatient programs.

If your plan features an Out-of-Pocket Maximum, Optum will cover 100% of all covered clinical services for the rest of the calendar year once you hit that threshold.

Heal With Us

What to Expect with NOLA Detox

At NOLA Detox, we offer the full continuum of care for addiction treatment. This means clients can start with detox, then transition to inpatient care without leaving our facility. From there, they can access PHP, IOP, Outpatient & Aftercare options.

We have two inpatient locations. Our newest, in Slidell, has 30 beds at present and is growing. Here, we provide a luxury-based facility with authentic support. Our owners were born and raised in New Orleans, so treatment at any level of care, at either of our locations, is truly for New Orleans.

We have moved away from the concept of a sterile hospital environment with plastic chairs and fluorescent lights and instead integrated all the great things about our community, including the food, the music, the culture, and the soul.

Our treatment isn’t just for people from the local area, but for those who love New Orleans’ culture, especially those who don’t think it’s possible to get sober in a city known for parties. We have earned our nickname as the official rehab of Mardi Gras because we help people build new social habits around sobriety without having to give up the fun and engagement that are part of our culture.

At our two locations, clients can enjoy catered New Orleans meals from local restaurants, access to food trucks and crawfish boils, and even sober parties during Mardi Gras.
